
Denotative analysis:
This ad shows a car key entering from the left side with trees carved in where the ridges of a key would be. It has a plain white background. There is an image of the truck that the ad is about. The VW logo is in the bottom right hand corner. The slogan is located next to the car with information about the car under it.
Connotative analysis :
This ad tries to make the car seem like it's meant for the outdoors by placing nature on the key in the picture. It also uses a play on words by saying "turn on your adventure" as the key turns on the car, and with "adventure" being the trees and animals on the key, you'd be turning it on. It shows that the truck the ad is about is meant for off-road driving and is a fun truck to drive, since adventures are typically seen as a fun thing to have.
TV ad
Denotative:
this ad has a completely white background. Starts with the white Iphone 6 rising from below with a man singing Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss. The black Iphone 6 Plus then rising from below to join the Iphone 6. The ad then shows various apps being used on the phone with the a second man joining the first, still singing the same song. It then ends with fireworks showing on the screen and then cutting to their slogan and logo.
Connotative:
This ad has a really relaxed feeling to it. It is very colloquial in its presentation as it tries to add some fun on what could have simply been a very straight forward, serious commercial. It grabs your attention immediately with the song that is chosen as almost everyone has heard it. On top of that it's two men who clearly aren't trying to sing well, adding in a sense of humor to the ad, making the audience want to watch it even more. The ad also holds Apple's minimalist aesthetic keeping the ad very simple and clean, which is how their products are always made to be. Overall it's a very lighthearted way to present their phones without being serious about it, as they typically want a younger audience, which means they can't be as serious or else many may find the phones could be boring to use, because who wants a serious phone when you can have the most fun phone on the market!
Outdoor Ad:
Denotative:
The ad is part of the bus. It has the illusion of a snake wrapped around the entire bus and squeezing it. The color of the bus is yellow and red. The snake is a boa constrictor. The head of the snake is at the front of the bus and the tail at the end of the bus
Connotative:
The ad is really wanting to focus on their animals in an interesting way to get people to notice, and making an optical illusion is a really good way of getting that attention. The ad plays on the idea of the killer snakes and is focusing on the main attribute of a boa constrictor. It makes the zoo seem wild and exciting because of the action being portrayed by the snake, and makes the onlooker feel they are in some sort of sci-fi movie.
